Travel Program information

The Madison Soccer Club offers one of the largest travel soccer programs in Morris County. We had over 25 teams in the Spring of 2016 across our boys and girls divisions, age groups U8 through U14. The majority of our teams compete in the Morris County Youth Soccer Association (MCYSA).

The travel program is a more competitive program which requires an elevated level of commitment. The focus of our travel program is to develop players through competition with other town clubs throughout Northern New Jersey. All travel teams are trained by a dedicated professional trainer, with support from volunteer parent coaches. Travel teams typically have 90-minute training sessions 2-3 times per week, and a game on Sundays. Teams are entered into "flights" to compete against similarly talented teams from other towns which may be located up to an hour's drive away. There are 10 games in the Fall and Spring seasons.

Players are asked to commit to playing both the Fall and Spring soccer seasons in order to help ensure continuity and guarantee that we will be able to field teams for all travel players in both seasons. We also feel that this is helpful to the development of individual players. MSC understands that other commitments may take precedence over soccer in the Spring, so the training schedule is generally a bit lighter in the Spring seasons, as we attempt to accommodate everyone's schedules.

Tryouts are held each year in May/June to determine rosters for the following Fall and Spring seasons. All players must tryout each year, a spot on a travel team one year does not guarantee a spot on that team the following year. (Players are guaranteed their roster spots for both seasons and do not need a separate tryout for Spring.)

There are occasionally opportunities for players who did not tryout or who were not selected for a team to join a travel team for the Spring season if players are lost due to other commitments, injury, etc. In such a case, a notice will be sent out by the MSC informing families of the opportunity to join an informal tryout/workout where players can be evaluated.

Our goal at all times is to place kids on teams most appropriate for their levels of ability to help foster their development and increase odds for their success and well being.
